Letter

As students at Central Community School in Port Coquitlam, we are very angry that a Nelson man shot a mommy grizzly bear and her two babies.
Now there are only 57 South Selkirk grizzly bears left.
We feel sad for the bears, and we want to cry about it. The man said he felt threatened, and that’s why he shot the bears.
But it’s his fault that the bears were there, because he left food out.
Maybe the man should have picked up the phone, instead of picking up a gun. He made a bad choice to shoot the bears.

We’re angry, too

I take offence with letter writer Lindsay O’Donnell’s comments following the recent shooting of a grizzly bear and her two cubs.
Not all Nelson residents shoot bears, or anything else for that matter. And many, many of us are infuriated at the man who did and who has given our beautiful city a disgusting reputation.
We’re angry at the senseless murder of bears too.
They have to eat, and that man left his garbage out for them to dine on and then took their lives.
Nelson goes to great lengths to ensure its people are bear-aware.
Please don’t condemn a whole community because of one man’s unforgivable mistake.

Nelson

I have to agree strongly with the lady, Jennifer from Nelson. The man was totally wrong for shooting the bears. It was a senseless murder. It’s his own damn fault. Leaving garbage around for the bears to be attracted to. I don’t think everyone should be to blame. Some people just think it is cool to go around shooting guns at animals when they, in fact, are to blame for their demise. If he had used his head he would have called the Conservation officer and had them deal with it instead of him taking matters in his own hands.
